The first new BBC One ident of 2013 - and rather disappointing considering the likes of 'Frozen Planet' and 'Planet Earth'. No wonder, then, that BBC One Northern Ireland played out the long version of the Hippos ident instead.






The setting sun gives way to a star-filled sky in this ident that introduced the fourth part of the Africa series.

Saturday 23rd November 2013 saw the 50th anniversary of the BBC's science-fiction drama Doctor Who, marked by a special episode featuring three Doctors. In the weeks up to the broadcast, the Doctor, as played by the current incumbant Matt Smith, occasionally interrupted the channel's idents. On the day itself, they were played out in the junctions up to the broadcast in the order below.

This is a recreation of the globe ident used by BBC TV from September 1963. It was shown on BBC TWO on 21st November 2013 as the opening scene of the drama 'An Adventure in Space and Time' that followed the events of the creation of Doctor Who and William Hartnell's years on the series. It wasn't used as continuity in itself as the programme was preceded by BBC TWO's Seascape ident.
