Wednesday 2nd November marked Channel 4's fortieth anniversary. Early in the day, the corporation released a press statement announcing major changes to the Channel 4 family of channel's branding, and a renaming of the on-demand service All4 to Channel 4 in Spring 2023.
At 6am, the on-screen channel logo was tweaked and the HD identifier enlarged. And later in the day at just after 2pm before Countdown (itself introduced by Paul Coia who announced its first programme on launch day back in 1982), new break flashes were shown.
At 7pm, Channel 4 News was the first programme to be graced with the new multi-coloured ident. At this time, the '4 Giant' idents are still in the rotation.
Whilst the new ident was first broadcast at 7pm 2nd November before 'Channel 4 News', this longer, announcerless recording was made in the early hours of 10th January 2023.
Whilst other channels were busy launching their festive presentation, Channel 4 remained true to itself and championed testing on World AIDS Day and breaking down the stigma still rife in society against people living with the disease.
Channel 4 celebrated Sign Language Week 2023 from 13th to 19th March, marking twenty years since BSL - British Sign Language - was formally recognised by the British Government. A number of the channel's popular programmes on both Channel 4 and E4 aired with signing, and a special Signed category has been added to the on-demand service All4.

Eight celebrities step into the unknown for a brand-new Channel 4 reality competition where their senses are taken on the ultimate journey by entering a completely pitch-black reality space for eight days. The series airs Sunday 16th April 2023.
