The BBC's overnight strand for educational programming, shown on BBC TWO. The current presentation is the final relic of the BBC's generic branding that was introduced in 1997. The 'acorn' ident itself has been altered over the years, but has always contained the imagery of the grand oak tree seeding a new generation.

The old BBC HD Channel audio checks resurfaced on 27th November 2013 as testing for the imminent launch of BBCs THREE and FOUR HD on satellite began. On 28th November, the audio check also appeared for CBeebies HD, with CBBC HD completing the set on 29th November. Please note, due to capturing and re-encoding, the audio isn't 5.1 surround sound.
When BBC THREE finally ceased transmission as a broadcast channel, the bandwidth available was released to CBBC. However, before CBBC extended its schedule to 9pm, this holding animation was shown. Recorded 31st March 2016.

On the evening of Saturday 29th June 2019, BBC Alba experienced technical difficulties beginning at 9.10pm and lasting until 10pm. For the majority of the duration, programming was replaced by 'This is Alba', but before and after, this caption over spinning kites was played out with a loop of the original BBC Alba music accompanying it.

On Friday 9th April 2021, the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was announced. The BBC broadcast its immediate coverage simultaneously across several of its channels, replacing standard presentation with this single 'BBC Family' symbol. It is worth noting, though, that despite the symbol being the same on each channel and introducing the same programming, the announcer was different.
Here is the announcement introducing 'A Tribute to HRH Duke of Edinburgh' as broadcast on BBC TWO at 9pm on the Friday.
As BBC ONE prepares the way to upgrade its service to provide all regions in HD on satellite, a 'nightlight' service has launched on 5th January 2023 to sustain the SD feed. Whereas we have been used to slides on the national HD service signposting local programming on SD, now the reverse will happen on a national SD channel with this slide giving information on the changes and advice to upgrade to HD.
